Road Freight Transport Survey (annual) This survey provides annual estimates of the Road Freight activity of all goods vehicles registered in Ireland by randomly sampling the weekly activity of about 25,000 goods vehicles. The activity is measured by looking at the weight of goods carried (in tonnes) and the quantity of work done (given in tonne kilometres) for each vehicle. Futher details on the size of good vehicles used, the age of vehicles and the type of load carried are also provided. Did you know that in 2003 Irish goods vehicles transported a total of 259 million tonnes of goods by road, an increase of 13% on the previous year and an increase of 221% over the last ten years. Statistics of Port Traffic (annual) The results of this inquiry provides information on the maritime traffic that passes through each port in the country. It allows you to see the number of arrivals at each port for the year together with the size of the vessels that visit. The inquiry also provides details on the weight and category of goods carried, the number of livestock handled, and details of the type of traffic ( roll-on/roll-off etc) for each port. Vehicles Licensed for the First Time Details of the number of vehicles licenced are published on both a monthly and annual basis.These publications provide information on the number of private cars, goods vehicles, motor cycles and other vehicles licensed for the first time in each county and county borough by both make and size. The monthly publication also allows you to see what is the most popular make of car licenced in a particular month. It also allows you to find out which county licenced the most tractors or motor cycles. The annual publication also provides details of the number of vehicles licensed for the first time in each of the previous ten years so you can see if vehicle sales have increased or decreased over a particular time period. Did you know that in 2004 the number of new private cars licenced for the first time was 149,635, an increase if 4.6% on the 2003 figure.
