Environmental Accounts published today show that:
- Estimated Greenhouse gas emissions in 2005 were 23% higher than the 1990 reference year, which is a 1% increase on the 2004 level of 22%. Under the Kyoto protocol Ireland's commitment is to a target of 13 % above the 1990 levels.

Of the total, Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing was the highest contributor at 28.3% (29.3% in 2004) followed by Transport at 21.1% (20.1% in 2004) and Industry at 18.7% (18.3% in 2004).
- Acid rain precursor emissions fell by 24.7% in the period 1997 to 2005.
